Journey to Przemysl – Rotaract Club Essen April 2022
At the beginning of April and after extensive preparations, Rotaract Essen started its journey to Przemysl; a polish city in close proximity to the Ukrainian border and therefore the current home of numerous Ukrainian refugees seeking shelter in the camps along the border.
Due to the tremendous support of our local Rotary Club Essen Süd we were able to fill the bus with goods, food, hygiene articles and medicine, which we had been informed were needed.
We handed these goods over to our polish Rotary friends in Jaroslaw, who organised the transport to several hospitals together with the Ukrainian Rotary Club Cherkasy.
Following a second stop closer to the border, 28 Ukrainian refugees, primarily consisting of women, children and senior citizens joined us on our journey back to Essen. Here they were welcomed by a city representative, who had been expecting them and organised their initial intake.
After driving for more than 41 hours and covering a total of more than 2,400 kilometres, we concluded our journey to Przemysl.
